![]() ![]() But if you fell off of Dying Light 2’s side content, Bloody Ties won’t change your mind. The highest praise I can give this one is that it’s functional and provides more of the same for players who enjoyed and have already consumed all of the base game’s content. The most worrying thing about this prospect is that this is Techland’s first DLC drop in a five-year plan if this is setting the standard for what players are going to receive, I don’t see myself returning to Dying Light 2 at all in the near future. In an era where games are receiving massive content updates free of charge, Bloody Ties’ $10 asking price feels very steep for what it is: more side content disguised with a light story. Expansions and DLC are an opportunity for developers to expand and evolve ideas from the base game and Bloody Ties feels like a swing and a miss. Most of the content in this new expansion is even formatted the same with “go to x location, kill x enemies,” etc. If you were a completionist with over 200 hours logged in the base game, guess what? Here’s more of the same and it probably won’t take you that long to complete I was able to finish it in about 3 hours of play and felt no need to return to it. The story is very light and unsatisfying and the expansion devolves into a series of unengaging timed challenges. That’s the inherent problem with Bloody Ties on a fundamental level. In a game that already had nearly hundreds of hours of side content, it would’ve been nice to receive more substantial new content, especially after players have had to wait a while since Dying Light 2 ’s February release. Unfortunately Bloody Ties turns out to be the last thing Dying Light 2 needed: more challenges and side content. The idea of a post apocalyptic survival tournament that survivors enter to seek fame and glory sounds like it should be an absolute win. On paper, Bloody Ties has an intriguing premise. A game bogged down by a lengthy tutorial, boring challenges and a world I felt little investment in despite making “pivotal” choices in its world and also despite featuring some of the best free running and art direction I’ve experienced in an open world game.Įnter Bloody Ties, the first DLC in a five-year plan to support Dying Light 2.Īiden finds himself drawn into a thunderdome inspired arena/tournament and a story involving a new NPC named Ciro. The games have a wonderful parkour system that rivals something along the lines of Mirror’s Edge but always seem attached to mundane and monotonous experiences.ĭying Light 2 was a prime example of this. I also respect the amount of support the games receive (the first Dying Light received support all the way to this year). I’m intrigued by the concept of a safe-day, dangerous-night zombie game where the focus is to survive using what you find and how you traverse the world. I have a massive love/hate relationship with the Dying Light franchise.
